Net Metering

Homes with Geolar are still on the electrical grid because Solar can only Net Meter Chartmeet 100% of a homes electrical requirements when the sun is shinning. Therefore at, and especially in the winter, there are times during the day when the home will need to draw electricity from the grid.

But during the day time hours, especially from spring to fall, the solar system will produce more electricity than the home can use. At these times the electricity flows back to the grid to replace the electricity that was used at night. Over the course of the year the amount taken from the grid and the amount replaced to the grid net out to zero.

The target for Geolar is to achieve net zero carbon footprint for household operations. According to the EPA household operations consist of heating, cooling, hot water, appliances, lighting and refrigeration. These basic household functions contribute 12.4 tons of CO2 on an annual basis for the average American home.

In a base case scenario add insulation or replacing windows might achieve a net decrease in emission of CO2 around 1.3 tons. And that is only if you start with little or no insulation and old single pane windows. In contract Geolar can eliminate all 12.4 tons of CO2 emissions.

Achieving Net Zero Carbon Footprint on household operations is probably the single greatest contribution a person can make to reducing green house gas emissions.

Electric Cars

model-s-red@2x-png8Adding an electric car to a Geolar system can eliminate another 11.7 tons of CO2 emissions. The addition of a car increase the size and cost of the solar array. If the home can handle the larger array, the costs are offset by electrical savings.
